The authorities were shouting, trying to deceive the residents of the village into thinking that no territory would be ceded to Azerbaijan, but then they came and gave the residents a week to move away from the area. MP Garnik Danielyan from the opposing NA Armenia Alliance said this to the press.
“I have not seen a single person in Kirants who is happy with the border delimitation process. How can one be happy when he is left without a homeland? The authorities offered the people of Kirants a massive amount of money. They said, ‘Write down the amount that you want.’ They summoned different people to different institutions to ‘work’ with them.
The authorities hinted that they had better take the money and live without trouble,” Danielyan said, adding that people are being terrorized.
According to him, the authorities take people hostage and then begin to impose conditions.
“With nerves on edge, some people may yield. The people of Kirants are told that there is no alternative, that things will reach their logical end, and they had better take the money and live untroubled until the time for the next concessions comes. That is the idea.
There may be some who will give way. I don’t know such a person, but that is a possible thing. There may be people who will be sold; that is a possible thing. But 99% are not happy with these processes. There may be people who would think there is no alternative but to take the money,” Danielyan said.
