The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin issued a statement regarding the incident in Sardarapat Memorial.
“On May 28, on the occasion of Republic Day, during the visit of Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II and the clergymen of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin to Sardarapat Memorial, the reprehensible actions of the police toward the Supreme Patriarch and other clergymen and the prohibitions and violent actions aimed at not allowing them to enter the memorial complex are another incident of the shameful and anti-national activities of the authorities.
Thank God despite the violence and prohibitions imposed by the police, His Holiness offered a prayer in front of the memorial for the brave Armenians who fell in the May heroic battles.
May the Lord protect independent Armenian statehood and bless and grant a safe and secure life to our people,” reads the statement.
