Lawyer: Abraham Gasparyan, recognized as a victim, has been questioned; A forensic examination is being performed

Director of Genesis Armenia Think Tank and Foundation, Candidate of Political Sciences, Associate Professor Abraham Gasparyan has been recognized as a victim. Gasparyan’s lawyer Tigran Grigoryan told ABC Media that the Investigative Committee of Armenia confirmed this.

“Forensic examination is being performed. Pre-investigation authorities and the Investigative Committee are actively working. Extensive criminal proceedings have been brought regarding the actions of June 12: one on mass unrest, the other on torture or abuse of authority. In the case of Mr. Gasparyan, it refers to the abuse of authority and robbery. I would like to note that the abuse of authority is based on inflicting physical injuries. These are initial legal assessments, and it is not yet clear whether the Investigative Committee will call it torture or another crime,” Grigoryan noted.

The lawyer said that Abraham Gasparyan has already been questioned in connection with the case. Considering the secrecy of pre-trial investigation, neither the lawyer nor Gasparyan can reveal details.

To remind, on June 12, at the Baghramyan-Demirchyan intersection, a clash broke out between the participants of the Tavush for the Homeland movement and the security forces. The police used stun grenades and disproportionate force against the protesters. About 101 people were hospitalized as a result.

Director of Genesis Armenia Think Tank and Foundation, Candidate of Political Sciences, Associate Professor Abraham Gasparyan was severely beaten and taken to a police station with bodily injuries. After being kept there for more than three hours, Gasparyan was released. When he was taken to hospital, the doctors said he got a concussion and suffered rib fractures.

While arresting Gasparyan, his phone, gold chain and wallet were stolen.
