Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh has been killed in Tehran. As CNN writes, Iranian state media reported this on Wednesday, citing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Hamas said Haniyeh was killed in an Israeli “raid” on his residence.
As noted, Haniyeh’s killing comes at a fraught time for the Middle East, with escalating confrontations between Israel and Hezbollah threatening to expand into a wider regional war.
Haniyeh was in Iran to attend the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected president of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian.
