Turkey has the right to choose which international political alliances to join, but Ankara must respect the values of the European Union, being an alliance candidate, Lead Spokesperson for the External Affairs of the EU Peter Stano said with regard to Ankara’s application to join BRICS.
“We expect the candidate states to share EU values and align their foreign policies with ours,” Stano said.
He noted that, as part of the EU membership process, the candidate states should align their policies with the line pursued by Europe.
