In its communication with Russia, Mongolia should make it clear that it supports Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State Matthew Miller said this at a press briefing, referring to Mongolia’s failure to execute the ICC arrest warrant for Putin.
“We don’t believe any country should give Putin a platform to promote his war of aggression against Ukraine. We do expect Mongolia to adhere to its commitment and its support for the principles of the U.N. Charter,” Miller noted.
He added that the U.S. understands the position that Mongolia is in, sandwiched between two much larger neighbors, but thinks it is important that the country continue to support the rule of law around the world.
“We look to continue to support Mongolia, but we do think it’s important that they uphold their international obligations. And it’s important that if they do communicate with Russia that they make clear that they support Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty,” Miller added.
