Tremors felt in school after Oshakan with classes conducted online

In Yerevan School No. 172, named after Hakob Oshakan, classes are held remotely. The reason is the shakes in the building.

Social media users reported that the school principal felt the shakes and contacted the relevant authorities. The services that arrived at the scene evacuated the staff and the children, who were forced to wait outside for hours. At the end of the day, they announced that the classes would be held online for a week.

ABC media was told by the media department of Yerevan Municipality that they are aware of the problem.

“The school has had emergency status since the ‘90s, namely emergency third degree. Recently, the principal felt some tremors and called the emergency services. They arrived and started the investigation works, during which it was considered appropriate that the classes be held online for the time being until the investigation is completed,” the municipality said.

Distance learning format will continue until the end of the investigation. Social media users warned that the reason for the school tremors was a building being built in the neighborhood. The municipality confirms that construction is underway near the school, but until the end of the rescue service studies, it cannot be clear whether the reason for the tremors is the construction or the building’s being rather old.
