Eurojust President to visit Armenia
Ladislav Hamran, the president of the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation (Eurojust), will visit Yerevan on Sept. 23.
On the margins of the visit, a procedure-agreement attached to the agreement on judicial cooperation in criminal cases between Eurojust and the competent authorities of the Republic of Armenia [the agreement was ratified by the Armenian Parliament on Sept. 11] will be signed. Armenian Minister of Justice Grigor Minasyan said this during a government meeting, when presenting the procedure-agreement.
“The European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation, also known as Eurojust, is a European organization coordinating the functions assigned to the prosecution offices of the EU member states and promoting cooperation between the prosecution offices of the member states, which, among other functions, carries out the exchange of collected data as an EU member as well as between competent authorities of third countries. The purpose of the agreement on judicial cooperation in criminal cases between Eurojust and the competent authorities of the Republic of Armenia is to develop international cooperation between Eurojust and the competent authorities of the Republic of Armenia in the fight against organized crime, terrorism, money laundering, trafficking and other serious crimes.
I should mention that the main agreement has already been ratified by the National Assembly; now it has been submitted to the president of Armenia for his ratification,” the minister said.
Grigor Minasyan explained that the procedure-agreement will enable the law enforcement system of Armenia to participate in the plenary sessions of the Eurojust board, the activities of the working group, meetings of strategic significance, awareness campaigns and projects,” Minasyan said.
The document will be signed by the president of Eurojust, the prosecutor general of Armenia, and the minister of Justice.
