The MP is spreading internal enmity: Lilit Galstyan on Gagik Melkonyan’s statement

Gagik Melkonyan, an MP from the Civil Contract party, told 24news.am news agency, “Let the people of Artsakh not interfere in the affairs of our country; let them behave like guests, not wishing to become hosts.”

The person having political responsibility, i.e., the MP, is the spreader of internal enmity and degradation in this case. It was hard to imagine that such an idea could arise in the mind of an Armenian person in general. Lilit Galstyan, an MP from the Armenia alliance, said in a conversation with ABC media.

“The MP’s statement should be assessed both politically and legally. I am convinced that the Prosecutor’s Office should initiate appropriate proceedings with signs of the crime of spreading domestic enmity,” Lilit Galstyan said.

According to the MP, the legal system of Armenia speaks of the country’s servitude and non-legal state.

“They dismiss professors with certain political views from universities, identify young people in rallies and oppress them in prisons. However, these cases escape their attention (this is about the authority representatives spreading hate speech). The people of Karabakh will digest these insults, as will a large mass of the society, but such statements are really anti-state,” she said.

Lilit Galstyan believes that such statements are a heavy blow to the Armenian value system, statehood, identity, and also insult Armenian citizens.

“The sad thing is that these statements are not new. Officials have been spreading Azerbaijani narratives from the National Assembly. From the very first day of the session, the authorities, starting with the president of the National Assembly, have been spreading hate speech. They openly serve the Azerbaijani agenda. This is not news, this is a tragedy,” Galstyan noted.

According to the opposition MP, the political majority that rules in Armenia today has betrayed national and state interests, which has weakened the country’s sovereignty and lost Artsakh.

ABC media applied to the Human Rights Defender’s Office to get a comment on Gagik Melkonyan’s statement. According to Artur Aslanyan, adviser to the human rights defender, the HRD does not comment on the words of individual politicians.
