Borrell calls on Georgia to cancel law “deviating from the path to the European Union”

High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell called on the Georgian authorities to cancel the law prohibiting LGBT propaganda and the law on gender reassignment.

In an X post, Borrell noted that the document adopted by the Georgian Parliament “draws the country away from the EU path”.

The Parliament of Georgia adopted laws “on family values and protection of minors”. “I am calling on Georgia to cancel this law, which takes the country further away from its path to the EU”, the official wrote.

At a plenary session on Sept. 17, the Parliament of Georgia adopted a package of bills aimed at banning LGBT propaganda. The bills were adopted in their third and last reading. They are said to include the draft Law on Family Values and Protection of Minors, as well as outgoing amendments to 17 laws that provide for a corresponding ban.
