Suren Sargsyan: Pashinyan did not attend Biden’s “farewell reception”, despite having received unprecedented support from him

Political scientist Suren Sargsyan was surprised by the fact that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan did not attend the farewell ceremony organized by U.S. President Joe Biden in New York.

He noted that according to the accepted order, the U.S. president invites the heads of the U.N. member states who attend the General Assembly session to a reception.

“This year, hundreds of heads of state attended this reception, which took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art at 6:00 p.m. on Sept. 25. On that day, Pashinyan met with Erdogan. But Erdogan—having finished all the meetings—left the U.S. without attending the reception.

“I think not participating in that reception was disrespectful to the outgoing president. ‘You-are-an-outgoing-president’ approach is wrong,” Sargsyan wrote on Facebook.

According to him, Pashinyan should have met with Biden—even if he had a short conversation— because he received unprecedented support from the outgoing Baden administration.

“The next important moment is that our former presidents and ministers will also prove that departing officials tell their colleagues: “I have limited time left in office. What can I do for you?” Of course, one could ask and get something from the U.S., as various world leaders have often done, including representatives of our previous three administrations. Of course, Makunts should have informed Pashinyan about such things, if, of course, she is aware of such things,” Sargsyan concluded.
