The route Baku wants: What does Armenia get in return?

Nakhijevan will be connected to the rest of Azerbaijan through Armenian territory, while Armenia is expected to gain access to Meghri and third countries via Azerbaijani territory. During parliamentary discussions on ratifying the TRIPP agreement, the government presents the project as an opportunity for mutual benefit, while the opposition questions where the guarantees are.

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan insists that Azerbaijan cannot benefit from TRIPP while Armenia does not. However, he acknowledges that the terms governing transit through Azerbaijani territory still need to be agreed upon with Baku.

In a separate statement, Mirzoyan said that the TRIPP project could be launched even before the Armenia–Azerbaijan peace agreement is formally signed.
