9-year-old dies in ambulance on way to Yerevan
Spokesperson for the Mayor of Yerevan Hayk Kostanyan has given details on the death of a child from smallpox.
He noted that the 9-year-old child, a resident of Ararat Province, had had a vesicular rash and fever, characteristic of smallpox, since March 7. At around 5:00 p.m. on March 10, the child went into Ararat Medical Center suffering from abdominal pain.
“A few hours later, amid the sharp deterioration in the child’s condition, a decision was made to transfer him to one of the medical centers in Yerevan, but on the way to the hospital, the patient’s condition sharply got worse, and he experienced a cardiac arrest. Therefore, he was transferred to the nearest health facility, i.e., Surb Astvatsamayr Medical Center.
At 11:30 p.m., the 50-minute EMS measures proved ineffective. Heart rhythm was not restored, and clinical death was recorded at 12:20 a.m.
The final cause of death will be identified after a forensic examination,” Kostanyan wrote.
