Florida police officer’s son opens fire with mother’s gun killing 2

The son of a police officer has opened fire with her former service weapon at Florida State University (FSU), killing two people and injuring six others, the BBC writes, referring to authorities.

The alleged gunman, 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, is also a student at Florida State University.

Police believe the gunman—the son of a Leon County sheriff’s deputy—acted alone and a motive was not known.

The suspect was shot by police and taken to hospital.

The deceased were not students, campus police said, but their identities have not been released.
