Iran confirms Supreme Leader Khamenei’s death

Iranian state media, including the Tasnim news agency, have confirmed that the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been killed.

He was reportedly assassinated during a US and Israeli strike on the morning of Feb. 28 at his residence in Tehran. Following the announcement, a 40-day period of mourning has been declared across the country.

Iran’s Defense Council Secretary Ali Shamkhani and IRGC Commander Mohammad Pakpour were also killed. Brig. Gen. Ahmad Vahidi has been appointed as Pakpour’s replacement.
