Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani said in an interview to Armenian Public TV that the Iranian position on border changes in the region remains unchanged.
“Our position has not changed: We are against border and geopolitical changes in the region. Border change is a red line for us, and this was stated at the level of the highest authorities of Iran, and no one can go back on this,” Sobhani said.
The ambassador noted that there is no point creating an extraterritorial corridor in the territory of another country, and that the transport routes of each country are in the hands of the state enjoying sovereignty over that territory.
“I think the discussions on the issue of the extraterritorial corridor in the territory of Armenia has nothing to do with international law, the concepts of territorial integrity and national sovereignty. As stated in the “Crossroads of Peace” project proposed by the Armenian prime minister, any territorial link in the territory of Armenia must operate under the national sovereignty of that country. Are the countries that are talking about an extraterritorial corridor in the territory of Armenia ready to create such extraterritorial corridors in their territory? I think the answer is negative. Therefore, what they do not wish for themselves, they should not wish for others either,” the Iranian ambassador said.
