Georgia’s charge d’affaires summoned to Moldova’s Foreign Ministry
The charge d’affaires of the Georgian Embassy in Chisinau has been summoned to Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs due to calls from Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to investigate the recent presidential elections in Moldova, RIA Novosti reports, citing the press service of Moldova’s Foreign Ministry.
“David Bochorishvili, charge d’affaires of the Georgian Embassy in Chisinau, has been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in connection with the recent statements made by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze regarding Moldova,” reads the statement.
The diplomat was informed of the Moldovan side’s deep dissatisfaction, emphasizing the distorted and inconsistent manner in which the Georgian politician publicly commented on the electoral processes and the path of European integration in Moldova. The Foreign Ministry noted that cooperation and friendship should prevail in the relations between the two countries.
Chisinau’s response came after Kobakhidze stated that if there is a need to investigate the process of elections, it should start from Moldova, not Georgia. This comment was made in response to the opposition’s call for an international investigation into the parliamentary elections, in which the ruling Georgian Dream party emerged victorious.
