Iranologist: Turkey is trying to improve its relations with the BRICS member states; Our neighbors can leave us out
The Iranian and Turkish foreign ministers have agreed to
increase the trading turnover between the two counties to $30 billion.
Iranologist Harut Artin Arakelyan said this to ABC Media with regard to the
meeting held in Tehran yesterday.
“This means that the two countries are trying to take
advantage of the current situation, namely of the BRICS membership and the
reduced tension in the relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran. This is, in
fact, in Turkey’s interests. In this regard, it tries to gain economic and
political benefits in the region. On top of this, the meeting between Erdoğan
and Putin in Sochi means that Turkey is trying to improve and develop its
relations with the BRICS member states,” the expert noted.
According to Arakelyan, in this region, almost every state
is a member of the BRICS; however, we are not. This means that our neighbors
will soon leave us out economically.
“We are trying to stay away from all of that; as a result we
will be left out. With regards to the unblocking of roads, the routes between
Russia, Iran and Turkey may be in the BRICS’s interests. Armenia can join these
projects as well,” Arakelyan concluded.
