Davit Ishkhanyan’s press conference recapped
Today, Artsakh NA President Davit Ishkhnyan held a press
conference.
Below, the recap of the press conference is made.
The Akna road
I publicly announce that there is a firm decision to keep
the Aghdam road closed and not to use it. There should be no atmosphere of
mistrust about this among the public.
The Berdzor corridor
We have only one road: the Berdzor corridor. Movement
through this corridor, connecting us to Armenia, must be restored. Azerbaijan’s
move yesterday is unacceptable to us.
Azerbaijan’s attempts to replace the ICRC with the “Red
Crescent”
Azerbaijan’s motives are clear: They want to show the world
that they are doing their best to meet the needs of the people of Artsakh. They
are trying to force the Stepanakert office of the Red Cross out of Artsakh
through their “Red Crescent”.
The phase of fierce struggle for national liberation.
Artsakh was struggling for its right to self-determination
100 years ago, but was forcibly annexed to Azerbaijan. Thirty years ago,
Artsakh again took up its struggle with the same vision in mind. I have our
right to self-determination in mind, I have the idea of Artsakh joining Mother
Armenia in mind. We are going through a phase of fierce struggle for national
liberation.
Relationships between Armenia and Artsakh
In the past two and a half years, we have been witness to
how Armenia was distancing itself from us. We have a job to do with regard to
this. We should not allow this to happen; we should not allow the
“interested” parties to break off the political relations between
Artsakh and Armenia.
The gap between the authorities and the society
The National Assembly and I are trying to create an
atmosphere of unity not only among the political circles, but also among the
public.
There is a gap between the authorities and the society,
which must be bridged.
The necessity of the international recognition of Artsakh
The international recognition of the Republic of Artsakh
forms a major element of our foreign policy. We are well aware of the work that
has been done toward this in the past 30 years. The recognition process was
underway. Given the current situation, now we can hardly achieve success in
this regard. However, the concept of “recognition for salvation” is
common practice in the world. It was adopted in the case of Kosovo and can be
adopted in our case as well.
