Dialogue is key to reaching a lasting peace in the South Caucasus: Blinken on negotiations in Washington

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken posted photos with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov on Twitter.

“We’ve been hosting peace talks this week with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. Dialogue is key to reaching a lasting peace in the South Caucasus region,” he wrote. Principal Deputy Spokesperson of the U.S. Department of State Vedant Patel referred to the meeting in his traditional press briefing as well.

“I don’t want to go into detail ahead of time, but would like to say that we are happy to receive Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers to support them in this week’s negotiations in quest of a peaceful future in the South Caucasus region. I won’t add anything ahead of time as only the first week has passed, but what I can say is that peace is possible between these countries,” he said.
