Some US officials are actively engaged in this process: The US Department of State comments on Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations

Principal Deputy Spokesperson of the U.S. Department of State Vedant Patel in his interview to journalists referred to the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace negotiations in Washington. He refused to provide details about the course of the meetings, noting that he didn’t want to get ahead of the process.

Referring to the question as to who else besides the Armenian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers is engaged in the process, Patel said, “A number of U.S. officials are actively engaged in this process. Senior Advisor for Caucasus Negotiations Louis Bono continues to be deeply engaged not only in the ongoing talks, but also in the entire peace process. State Secretary Blinken had the opportunity to join the opening plenary session, as well as welcome the foreign ministers for a dinner the evening before. Thus, we keep being deeply engaged in the process. I think that we should let the ongoing negotiations proceed day by day,” said Patel.

He emphasized that the U.S. remains committed to the process and to securing a peaceful future in the South Caucasus. “We believe that direct dialogue is key to conflict resolution, but I’m not going to add anything on this ahead of time.”
