Russia believes that Armenia cannot benefit from the
ratification of the ICC Rome Statute, thus coming under the jurisdiction of the
ICC based in the Netherlands. Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin
said this in an interview to TASS.
“The Russian position, as it used to be, is that Armenia’s
ratification of the Rome Statute, first of all, is not going to benefit Armenia
the way that some politicians claim here. That step, in our opinion, does not
agree with the friendly nature of our bilateral relations, and as we told the
Armenian side, this decision does not encourage the cooperation between Russia
and Armenia,” he noted.
