‘It’s a kitchen language’: Russian banned even in Latvia’s school corridors
In schools in Latvia, students have been banned from speaking Russian even in corridors during free time, RIA Novosti writes.
Alexey Roslikov, a member of the Riga City Council, said that according to some political figures, Russian is considered a “kitchen language.”
“It is assumed that it can only be used at home. Some educators even forbid communication in Russian in kindergartens. In the service sector, people are also refused service if they do not speak Latvian,” the lawmaker said.
