Trial of Maduro and his wife set to begin in June 2027

Trial of Maduro and his wife set to begin in June 2027

A federal judge in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York has scheduled the trial of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, to begin on June 1, 2027, the Associated Press reported.

The decision follows a joint request filed by US prosecutors and Maduro’s defense team, asking the court to begin the trial in June 2027. While the filing did not specify an exact date, Judge Alvin Hellerstein set the start of the hearings for the first day of the month.

Under the court’s schedule, both sides will begin filing pretrial motions related to the case in September 2026.

On Jan. 3, the United States carried out strikes on several civilian and military sites in Venezuela before arresting Maduro and his wife and transferring them to the United States.
