Georgia launches criminal investigation into widespread power outages

Georgia’s State Security Service has launched a criminal investigation on suspicion of sabotage following widespread power outages that struck the country on July 24 and 25, Georgian media reported.

The blackout disrupted water supplies and caused widespread mobile network and internet outages across the country.

Although preliminary reports suggest the disruption was caused by the shutdown of the Imereti high-voltage transmission line, law enforcement authorities have opened an investigation into the incident.
