15 killed, 22 injured in militant attack on checkpoint in Pakistan

At least 15 people have been killed in an attack on a checkpoint in northern Pakistan, including seven police officers and eight suspected militants, France 24 reports.

The attack took place on July 29 in the Hangu district of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

District police chief Tariq Habib told Geo News that another 22 police officers were wounded in the attack.

No organization has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

France 24 reports that it was the second major attack in the region in recent days. Last Friday, militants rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a checkpoint in the Tank district.

The security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains tense amid the activities of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militant group. Islamabad has blamed the rise in attacks on militants from Afghanistan, while Kabul has rejected the accusations.
