Spain to allocate €25M to support migrant children in Ceuta

The Spanish government will allocate €25 million to provide assistance to unaccompanied migrant children who arrived in the autonomous city of Ceuta during the current migration crisis, Social Security and Migration Minister Elma Saiz said, according to RIA Novosti.

The additional €25 million will be added to the €5.5 million already allocated during a conference on children and adolescents held in July last year, the minister said.

“The government has been and will continue to stand by Ceuta and, above all, by the most vulnerable groups,” Saiz said.

At the end of July, Ceuta, a Spanish autonomous city in North Africa bordering Morocco, faced a large influx of migrants. On July 31, city authorities said that around 60,000 people had entered Ceuta in a single day. Earlier, Alberto Gaitan, an adviser to the Ceuta government, said that facilities housing underage migrants in the city were overcrowded. According to him, Ceuta currently has 862 migrant children.
