Russian lawmaker comments on Ukraine-Azerbaijan ‘strategic partnership’

The situation in the South Caucasus could shift due to the impact of the Iran-US conflict, prompting Azerbaijan to reconsider its position, including on the war in Ukraine, Russian State Duma Deputy Alexey Chepa has said. He also stressed that Baku would not become a supplier of weapons to Kyiv.

Speaking to Lenta.ru, Chepa, who serves as deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, said: “I do not think Azerbaijan will become a supplier of weapons to Ukraine. I think the situation in the South Caucasus will change somewhat in the near future. This is primarily due to developments in the Iran-US conflict. I also believe Azerbaijan will revise its position, including on the issue of Ukraine.”

Earlier, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov described his talks with Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha as productive. He said Baku and Kyiv “share a strategic partnership based on the principles of friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation.”
