US launches economic ‘D-Day’ against Iran, Treasury secretary says

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has announced that the Trump administration is moving to a “financial offensive” against Iran.

According to Bessent, the period in which Tehran presented “extortion as security guarantees” is finally over.

“We are now entering the endgame. At dawn begins an economic D-Day — the single greatest financial offensive ever marshaled against an adversary,” Bessent wrote on X.

He added that the US intends to cut Tehran off from all sources of revenue and resources.

“Our objective is to sever every economic lifeline that sustains the tyrannical regime until Tehran stands alone,” Bessent noted.
