Russian Foreign Ministry: Russia carefully observes the situation in Iraq and Syria
Russia carefully observes the situation in Iraq and Syria. Launch of operations there should be agreed with the governments of those countries. Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said this at a press briefing today.
“We closely observe the developments unfolding in those regions,” she said.
Zakharova noted that the launch of any anti-terrorist operation in the territory of another country is permissible only with the agreement of that country’s government, particularly with those of Syria and Iraq, which are friends of Russia.
To remind, earlier Iran had attacked targets in Iraq and Syria. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the strikes had been carried out on the Mossad espionage facilities in Iraq, located in the city of Erbil, near the U.S. consulate and military base. Attacks were also made on the positions of the terrorist organization Islamic State in Syria. The IRGC noted the strikes were in retaliation for the recent terrorist attacks in Iran.
