Araghchi says US and Israel attacked Iran with support from some regional countries

The situation in the Middle East is the result of US and Israeli policies, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said during a meeting with Qatar’s PM and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.

Araghchi said the current situation was the result of US and Israeli attacks, as well as the continued maritime blockade of Iran and Washington’s economic pressure. He stressed the need to build trust among countries in the region in order to establish regional security mechanisms.

He also objected to the use of the territory and capabilities of Gulf countries — Saudi Arabia, Iraq, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman — by the United States to launch attacks on Iran and impose sanctions against it.

“Unfortunately, the United States and Israel, with the support of some regional countries, attacked Iran, creating instability in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran fulfilled its commitments under the agreement to end the war (the Islamabad Memorandum), including the fifth provision, but the United States violated its commitments and undermined the implementation of the agreement, and recently announced a new wave of economic attacks,” Araghchi said.

He also stressed that Iran would use all available means to protect its national sovereignty and interests.

Al Thani, for his part, highlighted Qatar’s principled position on preserving the country’s security and stability and stressed the importance of continuing consultations to reduce tensions in the region.

During his visit to Iran, the Qatari prime minister also met with President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei.
