The Wall Street Journal revealed details of the peace deal between Armenia and Azerbaijan

U.S. negotiators used the promise of access to Nvidia’s artificial-intelligence chips to help secure a preliminary peace deal reached last year between the nations of Armenia and Azerbaijan, according to people involved in the talks.

American negotiators proposed expanding chip procurement permits for Armenia’s Firebird data center project. According to the newspaper, access to artificial intelligence technologies has become one of the incentives for Yerevan to participate in the peace initiative.

The WSJ called this approach an example of so-called chip diplomacy—using access to advanced technologies as a foreign policy tool. As part of the deal, the US also proposed creating a transport corridor through Armenia to connect Azerbaijan with its exclave of Nakhchivan. The project has been named the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP).
