Lavrov: Russia has no desire to artificially hinder the diversification processes announced by Pashinyan

EU authorities will almost certainly deceive Yerevan regarding Armenia’s European integration. This statement was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov while speaking at the World Youth Festival.

“As for the aspirations of Nikol Pashinyan’s government to join the European Union, EU authorities could deceive them—and, I believe, almost certainly will. I do not see how Armenia could end up in the European Union, where countries like Turkey and Serbia have been waiting in line for decades,” the Russian Foreign Minister noted.

According to Lavrov, Russia has no desire to artificially influence Armenia’s ability to choose its partners and paths of development, but it also does not intend to foot the bill for Armenia’s preparations for EU membership; therefore, Yerevan “needs to make up its mind.”

“We have no desire to artificially hinder the diversification processes announced by Prime Minister Pashinyan,” the head of Russian diplomacy emphasized.
