Army personnel — target of criminal prosecution
As human rights defenders and various organizations state,
the number of political prisoners in Armenia is about 50. They are kept in prison
for merely expressing their opinion. Among them are two commanders of the RA
Armed Forces, namely Grigory Khachaturov and Mikayel Arzumanyan, and Former
Defense Minister of Armenia Davit Tonoyan. They are accused of having committed
various crimes. However, their advocates note that this is nothing but
political persecution. Holding commanders of the Armenian army in custody was
