Çavuşoğlu: The issue of missing persons in Armenian-Azerbaijani relations is an integral part of the broader peace process

Peace must come into the lives and hearts of the families of missing persons.

This was stated by Turkish Member of Parliament and former Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu at the 4th International Conference held as part of the Baku Dialogue on Missing Persons.

He noted that peace negotiations and agreements can put an end to hostilities, but sustainable peace requires reconciliation: "The South Caucasus has faced conflict, forced displacement, and deep humanitarian suffering."

According to him, the inclusion of a provision on missing persons in the preliminary peace agreement reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan is an important indicator. This demonstrates the recognition of this issue as an integral part of the broader peace process.

"Recognizing this open wound as an integral part of the peacebuilding and reconciliation process will undoubtedly increase mutual trust between people and create a solid social foundation for sustainable peace," Çavuşoğlu noted.
