Hope it won't come to that: Volodya Hakobyan on pressure against the opposition

Hope it won't come to that, and that our opposition colleagues will be satisfied with the answers to the questions they are raising once they receive them, Volodya Hakobyan, secretary of the Civil Contract (QP) parliamentary faction, told reporters at the National Assembly today.

"If they are so confident that the new Constitution is being imposed by Azerbaijan, that it does not originate from Armenia's own agenda, and that the citizens of the Republic of Armenia will vote against it, then ultimately they should give us a chance to ask the public directly about its position on the Constitution through a constitutional referendum, where the people can express their will. Therefore, I think it is premature to talk about deadlines or forms of pressure. I hope our colleagues will not let things come to that," the ruling party MP said.

Nikol Pashinyan recently stated that, regarding the adoption of a new Constitution, the opposition would be presented with a proposal that it simply would not be able to reject. Earlier today, he also said that "the authorities must lead public pressure against the opposition."
