Zakharova on Pashinyan: People should be asked for their opinion before any action is taken, not the other way around

Nikol Pashinyan is resorting to verbal gymnastics over Armenia's membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), while the country's authorities should first find out what the public thinks about the issue. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said this at a press briefing.

"We have once again heard a series of elaborate verbal manoeuvres and far-fetched arguments from Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan about choosing between the EAEU and the EU. There is nothing new here. The wording may be different, but it is the same old rhetoric, misleading the Armenian public without offering any clear answers or specifics," she said.

"We still find it difficult to understand the reasoning of the authorities in Yerevan. Even basic common sense suggests that people should be asked for their opinion first, and only then should any steps be taken – not the other way around," Zakharova said.a
