Zatulin: Armenia has the right to look for other partners, but there is no alternative to cooperation with Russia

Armenia has the right to look for other partners, but there is no alternative to friendship and cooperation with Russia in the near future. As Interfax news agency reports, Konstantin Zatulin, the first deputy chairman of the Committee of the State Duma for the CIS and Relations with Russian Nationals Abroad, said this.

“I am sure that in the near future, no one can replace the relations with the Russian Federation for the Armenian people. Moreover, I am sure that Armenia and Armenians have the right—and they exercise it—to establish contact with the whole world, to look for support anywhere,” Zatulin said on Thursday in Moscow’s Lazarev Club during a meeting titled “Where Are You Going? On the Cross of Armenia and the Cross of Russia”.

With regard to the accusations that Russia is responsible for the defeat of Armenia in the confrontation with Azerbaijan and for the difficult military and political situation in which the republic has found itself, Zatulin said it is a “blatant lie”.

“I think that the attempts to lay all the blame at Russia’s door for what has happened are a continuation of the statements that the incumbent prime minister and his supporters made at the beginning of their political career about the need to sever relations with Russia, to reverse the orientation of the Armenian people who have considered Russia as a protector and patron for hundreds of years,” Zatulin said.
