Shootings in nursing home in Croatia cause deaths

A gunman opened fire at a nursing home in Daruvar, northern Croatia, Deutsche Welle writes, referring to Croatian officials.

Six people were killed, and several others were injured in the attack.

The news service Index writes that five people died on the spot, another person died later in hospital; the rest of the victims are receiving medical assistance. Six people are in medical centers, HRT TV and radio company reports. Three of them are in serious condition.

The attacker fled the scene of the crime, but the police soon arrested him at a nearby café.

The shooter was identified as a 51-year-old retired military police officer. Presumably, his mother lived in a nursing home. The woman is said to be among the dead. Other residents and employees of the facility were also injured.
