Frankfurt airport temporarily halts flights after climate protesters block runways
Germany’s Frankfurt airport temporarily suspended flights after climate activists staged a demonstration near the airport runways, The Guardian writes.
The airport earlier asked passengers in an X post “not to go to the airport for the time being”. The tweet was later deleted, and a later update said “flight operations are gradually resuming”.
According to CNN, Letzte Generation climate activist group said “Airports are places where it becomes apparent that what was seen as normal in the past is something we cannot afford anymore today. Gas and coal are threatening our existence”.
The climate activists want the German government to pursue a global agreement to exit oil, gas and coal by 2030.
