In India, 104 Samsung employees were detained for planning a protest, Reuters reports. Employees were protesting low wages at the Samsung Electronics factory in the south of the country.
According to the law enforcement, the employees planned to start a protest march, without permission. Kanchipuram district police spokesperson Sankar Ganesh said around 100 people have been detained as a precautionary measure.
Earlier last week, there was a strike at the Korean company’s factory in Sriperumbudur, near Chennai. Hundreds of employees pitched tents near the factory building and participated in the protest. They demand higher wages and reduced working hours. 1800 employees work in this factory. The Samsung plant roughly employs 1,800 workers.
