Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that the Nagorno-Karabakh issue was resolved by the RA leadership by the end of 2022 by the conclusion of an agreement with Azerbaijan with the participation of the EU, recognizing the borders of 1991, under which the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast was part of the Soviet Republic of Azerbaijan.
“Now the talks are about its legal formulation, because there was a political agreement. Here, we cooperate with Turkey. Turkey has great influence in Azerbaijan. With our help, Turkey started the process of normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations, which has now been suspended, but Turkey’s interest remains. And we are ready for it. The settlement should take place in the context of other issues that need to be resolved in the South Caucasus, including the settlement of the NK problem. One of the issues is the restoration of transport links between the main part of Azerbaijan and Nakhijevan. The Nov. 9 document, signed by Nikol Pashinyan, says that communication will be restored and will be restored with the security provided by the Russian border guard troops. I was surprised to read Nikol Pashinyan’s interview, which is a lie and turns everything upside down. At first, Armenia refused the highway option, insisting that there should be only a railway. Azerbaijan did not see a reason but agreed. Then Armenia said there would be no presence of Russian border guards, and they would do it themselves. Azerbaijanis note that the level of mistrust is still rather high for the Azerbaijanis to be sure of their safety when passing through the territory of Armenia. The ability to come to those agreements very often plays a significant role,” Lavrov stated, adding that now Armenia is trying to involve the West in every possible way, which is their choice.
