PACE to discuss human rights situation in Azerbaijan

The autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe begins. It is expected that in the autumn session, which will last from Sept. 30 to Oct. 4, issues regarding democracy, rule of law and deterioration of the human rights situation in Azerbaijan will be discussed during the session.

On Sept. 30, the Assembly will vote on including the human rights issue in the agenda of the first day of the session.

After the adoption of the decision, discussions will begin on Oct. 3.

Since the powers of the Azerbaijani delegation in PACE were not ratified in the January session, its participation in the assembly was suspended.

PACE connected this with the deterioration of the human rights situation in Azerbaijan and the refusal to invite the PACE observation mission to the presidential elections.

In addition, the Václav Havel Human Rights Prize will be awarded at the session. One of the three candidates is detained Azerbaijani activist Akif Gurbanov. The assembly will also discuss the human rights situation in Iran.
