Hamas confirms its commander’s death in Lebanon following Israeli airstrike
Hamas has confirmed the death of its Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades militant wing commander in Lebanon in an Israeli airstrike.
“A military leader, Khaled Ahmed Al-Ahmad, was killed in Saida, southern Lebanon, while going to the mosque for morning prayer,” the movement said in a Telegram post. It was noted that despite the losses, militants “will continue to resist occupation and defend the people of Gaza.”
Earlier, the Israeli Defense Forces reported the elimination of the commander of Hamas’s military wing in Lebanon in a targeted strike.
On May 2, Lebanon’s Supreme Defense Council demanded that Hamas be held responsible for all those involved in firing rockets at Israel.
In response, the movement’s leadership agreed to hand over Palestinians suspected of shelling the Israeli cities of Metula and Kiryat Shmona on March 22 and 28. According to the news portal Elnashra, four of the nine suspects were handed over to the Lebanese army on May 6. All of them confessed to having participated in armed attacks against Israel.
The Lebanese army also destroyed the Quwwat al-Fajr guerrilla base in the Arkoub border area, which is the armed wing of the Sunni organization Al-Jama’a al-Islamiyya, and a partner of Hamas and Hezbollah’s guerrilla forces.
