Another museum robbed in France, hours after the Louvre heist

Just hours after the Louvre robbery, another museum in France was looted. Le Figaro reports that the Denis Diderot House of Enlightenment, located in the country’s northeast, was targeted.

Unknown individuals stole part of a collection of gold and silver coins dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. The total value of the stolen items has not been disclosed. No other exhibits or artworks were taken.

Reports note that the thieves took advantage of the museum’s closure on Mondays, breaking in during the night of Oct. 19 to 20. Investigators have described the theft as a “carefully planned” operation.

The Louvre heist occurred last Sunday. The stolen jewelry had not been insured, and the museum estimates its losses at 88 million euros.
