Around 5,000 Cuban fighters taking part on Russia’s side in war against Ukraine, Axios writes

The administration of US President Donald Trump has informed the US Congress that Cuba has sent up to 5,000 fighters to Russia to take part in the war against Ukraine, and is also providing “diplomatic and political support to Moscow”, Axios writes, citing a State Department document.

The State Department noted that the Cuban government knowingly allowed and facilitated the deployment of troops to Russia, even if it has not officially acknowledged doing so.

“The Cuban regime has failed to protect its citizens from being used as pawns in the war between Russia and Ukraine,” a State Department spokesperson said.
