Zakharova on Erdoğan’s statement regarding withdrawal of Russian peacekeeping troops from Artsakh in 2025
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova
referred to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s statement that the Russian
peacekeeping troops should be withdrawn from Artsakh by 2025.
Zakharova noted that the Russian peacekeepers were based in
Artsakh based on the tripartite statement of November 9, 2020. However, Turkey
is not a party to that statement.
“Preservation of peace in the South Caucasus is in the
interests of Azerbaijan, Armenia and the entire region, including Turkey. Thus,
we emphasize the importance of cooperation with our Turkish partners with
regard to the joint Russian-Turkish monitoring center in the district of
Aghdam,” Zakharova said.
