Sweden temporarily relocates embassy from Tehran to Baku

Sweden has evacuated its diplomats from Iran, and the diplomatic mission is now operating from Baku, Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard said.

“Given the deteriorating security situation in Iran, the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs has decided to temporarily relocate the staff of Sweden’s embassy from Tehran. The embassy continues to operate from Baku. The security situation in Tehran remains highly uncertain. Since 2022, the Swedish Foreign Ministry has advised against travel to Iran and has urged Swedish citizens to leave the country,” the minister said.
