Produced in Armenia, rotting in Lars

It has been five days since the Lars checkpoint has been
closed or has been allowing a rather slow passage of cargo. Since the majority
of goods are agricultural products, problems arise. Thus, businessmen have
started to incur losses. The authorities urge them not to politicize the issue
and to find new markets.

Experts claim the reason is solely political. Several
reasons for the closure of the checkpoint have been officially given. First,
weather conditions are rather unfavorable. Second, Rosselkhoznadzor has decided
that the maximum residue limit is exceeded in Armenian products. Coincidence?
Anyway, every such closure of Lars is always preceded by an event that aggravates
relations between Armenia and Russia. The latest such event was Armenia’s
absence from the CSTO summit.
