Mediators present ceasefire proposal to US and Iran, Axios writes

Mediators have presented Washington and Tehran with a ceasefire proposal, Axios reports, citing sources.

“Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan and other regional mediators have presented the United States and Iran with a proposal for a 10-day ceasefire,” the publication says.

According to the outlet, the proposal calls for halting hostilities, restoring traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, and giving Washington and Tehran an opportunity to prevent the memorandum of understanding from collapsing. The administration of US President Donald Trump is already reviewing the proposal.

Against this backdrop, the White House has urged Israel to avoid actions that could undermine diplomatic efforts to reach a settlement.

According to the publication, however, Washington is simultaneously preparing for the possibility that the talks could fail. In recent days, the US military has deployed dozens of fighter jets and tankers to the region, building up forces needed for a major escalation.

According to Israeli sources cited by the outlet, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) nevertheless remain on high alert. Tel Aviv expects the conflict could turn into a large-scale campaign within days.
